Sonna Olson -
Sonna is an exceptional singer with years of experience who really knows how to sing with passion and deliver a song. Able to switch styles and genres with ease, Sonna provides lead and backup vocals for Amethyst as well as handling percussion duties.
In addition to fronting bands as lead-singer and percussionist, Sonna’s musical resume’ also includes studio and commercial work. Sonna has performed as a soloist for community and sporting events, weddings, The Olympic Festival, and Ironworld.
Sonna’s first musical group was Source, an acoustic duo with her sister providing piano and additional vocals. Next came Sabre, a top-40 show band. Sabre traveled the Midwest playing clubs and shows for several years during the late 70’s.
Personna, with Sonna as vocalist, was a variety band who kept busy on the Minnesota club and wedding circuit during the 80’s and 90’s. In the late 90’s, Sonna took on lead vocals for an R&B horn band called The LoadKings. After several changes in personnel and musical direction, The LoadKings, with Sonna on lead vocals and Steve on keys and vocals, became a well respected classic rock band, playing throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
After a couple years writing, doing studio work, jobbing, and recording, Sonna once again joined forces with Steve to create Amethyst.
Steve Lungstrom -
Steve Lungstrom (keyboard, vocals, and instrumental tracks arranger/producer) began his professional music career at age 16 in Central Minnesota's nightclub and ballroom circuit. Since then, Steve has toured with numerous regional acts in 46 states and Canada and has performed a wide variety of musical genres including rock, pop, contemporary country, R&B, and light jazz.
The years 1991-1993 marked the highlight of Steve's musical endeavors, as he enjoyed the privilege of touring with Atlantic Nashville Recording Artist Robin Lee, best known for her top ten single "Black Velvet" in 1990. During that time, Steve appeared with Robin on several TNN television productions including "Nashville Now" and "On Stage" and performed at prestigious national venues such as Wolf Trap in Virginia. He also shared the stage with several of country musics' most popular stars, including Garth Brooks, Neal McCoy, Kenny Rogers, Steve Wariner, Lorrie Morgan, and the Statler Brothers.
Today, following a three year hiatus, Steve returns to the stage with the incredibly talented vocalist, Sonna Olson, as part of the unique and versatile duo, Amethyst, and is excited to provide audiences with an enjoyable evening of music from the past four decades.
